Language Thinking & CustomerMade

24 June 2006 2 Comments

Did a 5 minute, 30 slide sprint (PechaKucha go home!) presentation about language and change at the CustomerMade conference some time ago. The presentation is here as an pdf – all though a bit of the meaning probably isn’t in the slides.

This is an interesting subject and something I’ve blogged about recently. Not just your post but the theme of the presentation itself (which, by the way, I was able to infer perfectly from the slideshow with no additional explanation) and the seminar and the whole CustomerMade ethic. What is the role of the entrepreneur/creator/originator in this new world? How different is this from a previous era of focus groups and market testing? What is the difference between Beta testing and market testing? Is it the degree of influence each process can have on the final product? Is decisive action not still needed from the entrepreneur to set things in motion? Will customers spontaneously create a product they need? It took someone to program the first wiki even if there was no way to predict how it might be used.

Yeah, the role of leadership to create the space to create, the tools to create is interesting.

But more specificly the responsiblity of the person who create places or tools is what i’m hinting mostly at in the presentation.

Which if you’re conscious about the values of what you create requires an extreme focus on language.
