Pinds dot-com
Had the pleasure of hanging out with Lars Pind today. He’s my kind of human being!:
1. Out of nowhere he invited me to hang out demonstrating lot’s of openness and initiative.
2. He’s got a damn nice site with lot’s of good writing. A role model in sharing/creating knowledge and ideas if there ever was one!
3. He’s an intelligent spirited technologist with big ambitions for life and how he can make a difference, yet still very down to earth.
4. He’s got the entrepreneurial bug and technology history in his blood. Interestingly his parents were the co-founders of the legendary danish software company DSI back in 1983. A pioneer in integrated office/productivity/collaboration software back in the DOS days.
Good guy!

reboot5

Monday, February 25th, 2002

Email sent to a potential reboot5 speaker a couple of weeks ago:

“Our focus this year is how introduce elements from nature and humanism into the technology, design and organizations we create. To get our audience to become conscient about the values they put into their work. Returning to the roots of the ideas/mission the creators of the computer revolution originally had.
To me you’re the perfect person to tell the story and put it in perspective. Hopefully reigniting a young new generation who’s focus on higher goals has been taken away by the financial community the last couple of years with new ideas, reason and goals in their work.”

Peter Morville: Social Network Analysis

TED12

Saturday, February 23rd, 2002

David Weinberger reports from TED. Looks like Mr. Negroponte is still going strong:
“Nicholas Negroponte wrapped up the sessions by predicting that in 1-2 years, we will see the development of a “viral telecommunications network” based on 802.11 wirelessness, a single installation serving an entire neighborhood. This will go beyond merely enabling multiple connections to the Internet, Negroponte predicts, resulting in a peer-to-peer network that parallels the current Internet topography. Further, he suggests that establishing wireless networks in areas of strife will enable children to reach past their parents’ stupidity.
He connected this with our culture’s odd idea that at the age of 5 children should stop learning by playing and start learning by facing forward and being taught. Give kids a connected computer and they will teach themselves and others by exploring the Internet. Pointing to his experience building schools in rural Cambodia, he said: “People say it’s not sufficient to give kids computers and connectivity. You know what? It is.
Damn good stuff.”
