Kontiki launches. Formerly known as “Zodiac Networks”, Kontiki, is the biggest play seen so far for last mile media distribution. A dream team of people involved among others Bill Campbell, Marc Andreessen, Mike Homer, Randy Komisar with venture backing by The Barksdale Group and Benchmark.
Their site is very simple and professional and judging from the thumbnails of their user interface it looks very promising indeed. Also seems as one of the first major desktop applications with a web based user interface. (Perhaps with Mozilla’s Gecko engine?)
Messaging vendors rally around SIMPLE protocol. Finally interop in instant messaging seems plausible.
