Got my eyeglasses today!

Friday, August 24th, 2001

Got my eyeglasses today!
Wauv! So many nuances and details! In geek-speak this is 300 dpi compared to 72 dpi!
Now i realize that the 30% vision thing probably was true. My brain will be overloaded the next couple of days with all this visual data flowing in! :_).
Now i’ll just have to stop laughing when i look at myself in the mirror…
BTW, playing Gran Turismo 3 on a Playstation II rocks with my glasses on!

Dinner with a VC

Friday, August 24th, 2001

Had dinner with an old vc-friend last night. Lot’s of discussions about the current state of the market, what factors will drive innovation and change, all the doomed danish vc’s started in year 1999-2000 with nightmare-portfolio’s, etc.
I’m getting more and more convinced that more focus on innovative technology is the way to go. It’s technology that creates disruption together with good ideas and leadership. The last couple of years has been all about “good ideas” style companies with no real technology advantage.
9 months ago i started a journey back to technology - and damn, there’s lot’s of interesting stuff happening. And so many of the visions of the Engelbart’s, Alan Kay’s and Vannevar Bush’s of this world, still haven’t been created and explored.

Just back…

Thursday, August 23rd, 2001

Just got back from three days of travel, board meeting, project meetings, reception, etc. with Aarstiderne.com and a workshop about “digital agriculture” at Lolland.
Still digesting lot’s of interesting thoughts, people i met, conversations and ideas i experienced…

Idea/Observation

Thursday, August 23rd, 2001

Idea/Observation:
Build vertical enterprise platforms based on open source building blocks. 1-3 guys or girls in a garage can at this point, with the right creative beta/launch customers and branding, create disruption in ANY industry.
Keywords: Web centered, Python/Zope, application service provider, web services, software subscription revenue model, xml-rpc/soap, etc.

The new look!

Thursday, August 23rd, 2001

The new look!
Tomorrow i’ll be debuting a new look: thomas+eyeglasses!
The story: Lately i’ve had increasing trouble looking at text-tv, signs/posters far away, etc.
So i finally got around to visit the optician. The judgement: i’m only capable of seeing 30% as much as a normal person my age. (i still don’t believe/understand the percentage - to me it seems as if i can see 90-95% of normal). But i had to admit that it was a totally new world when i tested the right eyeglasses
What caused it - who knows!

Rushkoff on Microsoft

Monday, August 13th, 2001

Douglas Rushkoff Column:
“Focus on reintroducing innovation and competition to the browser market, rather than just punishing Bill Gates. Here is just one such remedy: force Microsoft to license its OS to five of its competitors. Set up an auction, supervised by the Justice Department, in which companies bid for licenses to the entire Windows OS at its current stage of development, as well as its source code. Their bids can include an upfront price, ongoing licensing fees - whatever the market will bear.
Then, these five companies can take whichever direction they want in the further development of the OS. They all start with the same advantage: all those Windows-compatible programs out there will work on everyone’s OS.
The best suggestion i’ve seen so far on how to level the playing the field and stop Microsoft’s monopoly…

Bill Gurley on 802.11b

Benchmark partner and pundit, Bill Gurley, cleverly explains why Bluetooth is destined to fail and why 802.11b rocks!
